Below is an outline of how we categorise our lessons to provide the best possible service.
Children: Novice
From fear of submersion to limited aquatic experience, children who are novices can have a range of challenges. Our tutors’ primary goal is to promote safety in the water, along with introducing the correct physical and aquatic techniques.
The outcome is confidence. Confidence that children can be safe in the pool on holiday. Confidence that they are learning the correct techniques and habits. Confidence that they are learning to enjoy water and dive into all the aquatic opportunities that will open to them.
For novices, we recommend 30/45-minute lessons, depending on each child’s physical and concentrational abilities, which we assess during a free 30-minute trial.
Children: Intermediate
Once children have basic aquatic skills and are comfortable in an aquatic environment, our approach to intermediate swimmers remains the same. We aim to develop confidence and enjoyment in the water.
At intermediate level, our swimming lessons are a catalyst for holistic development. Children improve their stroke action. They learn technique. They develop speed and strength that facilitates elevated performance in swimming galas, sports days, and for each separate sport they participate in. Furthermore, the skills we teach allow children to engage in additional water sports and holiday activities.
For intermediate swimmers, we recommend 45-minute lessons to realise their potential. Some of our intermediates swim twice a week. This is particularly advised for children who either remarkably take to swimming or for those who enjoy swimming but lack interest or confidence in other sports.
Children: Competition
We categorise competition level swimmers as confident swimmers that can be pushed to improve their technical and physical capabilities. Primarily, we aim to provide the best platform for children to reach regional and national level competition through engaging muscle activity with the correct stroke action.
Swimming aides the development of children’s aerobic capabilities, which has an evident effect on all sporting activities. Furthermore, with the maintenance of correct swimming technique, we assist the progress of physical actions for all sports, from bowling action in cricket to backhand motion in tennis.
We suggest competition sessions of a minimum of 45 minutes, generally twice or more a week. This is dependent on each child’s routine as we want them to flourish. We are aware that children have multiple extracurricular activities, and we want to support their growth without strain.
Adult: Beginner
Beginner sessions for adults are a feeling out process. Over the years, we have taught people who have never had a swimming lesson, people who avoid the sea and pools on holiday, and some who are uncomfortable with being in the bath.
Our lessons begin with confidence. The journey begins with the correct breathing techniques to ensure comfort in the water and laying a foundation for competent swimming. We then reiterate those correct habits, to align swimming technique with posture, breathing, and strength.
For beginners, we schedule lessons on an ad hoc basis. We recommend 45 minutes, to introduce and implement ideas and skills generally required across aquatics. If an adult beginner is attending multiple lessons per week, 30 minutes can be just as productive, as we can separate particular aspects of swimming to different sessions.
Adult: Development
Development sessions are aimed at using swimming to develop physical, technical, and cardiovascular fitness. They are for people who are competent swimmers. Development sessions can be used to train for a swimathon or triathlon, or to work alongside personal training sessions to improve and maintain wellbeing.
Sessions cater to your needs. If your aim is to enter a race, event, or competition, we assess your technique and help develop power and efficiency. If you are taking sessions as alternative training, we provide structured sessions to maximise cardiovascular output, whilst maintaining correct technical actions.
Consistency gets the most from development sessions. We recommend taking one or two a week, particularly if you have an upcoming event. Depending on if you swim between our sessions per week or if your primary training your sessions with us, Development sessions can also be an opportunity for our tutors to give you tips to take into your personal swimming.
Adult: Stroke Workshop
Our stroke workshop sessions are for adults of all abilities, who want to develop one specific aspect of their swimming. It can be with an event/swimathon in mind, or it can simply be to learn a skill. We have provided workshops for people who want to improve their front crawl, learn butterfly, and develop sculling and treading water skills, amongst others.
Sessions can be scheduled on an ad hoc basis. We recommend a few lessons in a short space of time, to learn new habits and to implement those new skills.
